FAQ

Thank you for your responses to and questions about Placed.

1. Does inclusion in the final publication cost anything?

No. The final outcome for the project is yet to be determined. However, it is anticipated that the publication will be initially available as a downloadable ebook.

2. Does the 'project' have to have actually been produced?

No. Placed is interested in capturing emerging and changing ideas about our cities, communities and places. If your project is an idea or prototype then it will be considered.

3. What scale of project is of interest?

Any and all scales. Proposals could be masterplans, social networks, consultation processes, building designs or uses, public artworks, community gardens, social enterprises, community organising or ideas.

4. What types of projects are you interested in?

Some examples are noted above and more specific ideas are noted below. The project is particularly interested in those projects that are driven by artists, designers, planners and architects or teams involving creative professionals as changemakers. I will also be researching this area in greater depth to identify specific projects. Site specific installations and permanent artworks are not of specific interest unless they evoke, communicate or seed a change in our relationship to or experience of place. Some of the projects currently being researched are:

  • Renew Newcastle
  • SquatSpace, Sydney
  • ProppaNOW, Brisbane
  • GRL, Adelaide
  • Subtropical Architecture & Design
  • Back to the City, Sydney
  • Lattice, ICE/Proboscis, Sydney
  • Transition Town movements
  • Creative Capital, Form, WA
  • Some public art projects
  • Eco-villages
  • Creative and sustainable retrofits of buildings and precincts, including incorporation of clean technology. I've not seen a good shopping centre retrofit and repurpose, so if anyone knows of one, please email.
  • Smart in-fill projects and uses of portable buildings
  • Consultation processes
  • Melbourne's Laneways
  • Ecobound, WA

Also, some of these projects will be featured in the Urbanista column for Arts Hub. If you are uncertain please contact me at lcarroli@pacific.net.au.
